SMD Logistics renews its digital platform with Motillo
In early 2026, SMD Logistics chose Motillo as their new technical partner for their Litium solution. In collaboration with design agency Kreativism and communications agency Vero, we have now modernised the digital platform to reflect where SMD Logistics is today.
About SMD Logistics
SMD Logistics has an important mission: to take responsibility for the distribution and logistics of nicotine products throughout Sweden. The company's history stretches all the way back to 1915, when the state tobacco monopoly was established. Since then, the business has grown and evolved — from a state monopoly to a part of Swedish Match, and since 2023 as an independent, privately owned company still responsible for one of the country's most regulated markets.
With over 100 years of experience, SMD Logistics today serves as the backbone of this market. As a neutral and trusted partner to suppliers, authorities, and more than 7,000 retailers, the company ensures that products only reach licensed operators, with full traceability and regulatory compliance at every step. Managing the industry's tobacco tax is also part of the remit.
In 2025, SMD Logistics turned over just over SEK 17 billion. A large share of sales flows through their e-commerce platform, built on Litium Commerce Cloud.
A new design — a major step forward
When SMD Logistics chose Motillo as their new technical partner for their Litium solution, the first task was to renew the visual experience of the platform. In collaboration with design agency Kreativism and communications agency Vero, we have now modernised the digital platform to reflect where SMD Logistics is today.
The new version launched in June and represents a significant improvement over the previous one — both visually and in how the brand is communicated to customers and partners.
"The collaboration around the implementation of our new digital platform has been excellent"
Motillo immediately demonstrated their strength in combining deep technical expertise in the Litium platform with a strong understanding of the design agency's intentions. When a design idea didn't fully fit within the platform's constraints, they came up with sound suggestions to achieve a more effective implementation while still preserving the design intent.

Responsibility for maintenance and continued development
Beyond the design project, Motillo has now taken on ongoing responsibility for the maintenance and future development of SMD Logistics' digital platform. This means we are available as a technical partner whenever the need arises — whether it concerns routine upkeep, improvements, or new features that support the business.
We look forward to a long-term partnership with a company that holds a unique position in its industry.
”SMD Logistics has an enormously important mission. Being entrusted with the performance and management of their digital platform is something we are very proud of.”
